The Lightning Class was well represented last weekend at the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta @ St. Pete. With 25 teams registered, the Lightnings were amongst the largest fleets. It was so nice to see many familiar faces in the SPYC boat park. On this class website, you can find regatta results as well as Augie Diaz featured in a "Free Advice" segment which was very fun. Thanks to Dave Reed at Sailing World for helping make it happen.
One reason many Lightning teams participate at this event is because the Southern Circuit begins in St. Pete. Hence, leave your boat and return in March for more great racing and camaraderie. The Circuit is really a great way to kick off the 2024 sailing season. This year features 3 days of racing on Tampa Bay and 3 days of racing on Biscayne Bay. Two wonderful venues, rich in Lightning Class history. You have plenty of time to make plans and come to sunny Florida. St. Pete Winter Championship is March 16-19; Miami Mid Winter Championship is March 21-23. There are links to view the NOR's and register on the website. PLEASE JOIN US IN FLORIDA! I am personally inviting you to our annual Rum Party which will be held after racing on Monday, March 18th at SPYC. I hope to mix you a drink then.
Please reach out to me anytime. I am always happy to talk Lightning sailing. We have a great class and an even better group of volunteers working to keep the class strong and vibrant for years to come. Need a boat? Need a Skipper? Need crew? Contact me. I will help make it happen.
