Will Rucker grew up sailing in Charleston Harbor in Charleston, SC. He started in the Optimist and quickly moved into the Laser class. He grew through each class and moved through the ranks. After years of dedication and hard work, he solidified himself as one of the top ILCA 6 sailors in the country. He moved up to ILCA 7, and still competes with the Olympic Development Program. His time in the Laser/ILCA has taught him a tremendous amount about racing and who he is as a person.
His team consists of fellow teammates on the College of Charleston Dinghy Sailing Team. “We are a diverse team that all contribute in different ways, says Rucker.” Andrea Melnik is one of the top crews on the CofC sailing team and competes in every major college sailing event. Charlie Allen is a scow sailor from Wisconsin and is solidifying himself as one of the most well-rounded doublehanded drivers on the team. Most importantly, they are some of my best friends, and I have been racing with them for quite some time.
Team Rucker will be based out of the Carolina Yacht Club – SC and plans to practice regularly, compete in the local Charleston circuit, Southeastern District Regattas and the North Americans. They plan to do as many events as possible. “We are excited to work as a team on a triple handed boat.”
