Racing for both the Masters' and South American championships will happen at the same time (one start) but will be scored separately. A team could qualify for both regattas. However, if a non-South American wins the South American Championship, they can win the regatta, but will not be the South American Champion. That honor must go to a South American. Amended May 9, 2017 - persuant to the Rules Governing the South American Championship, this event is deemed open. Non-South American competitors may win the open tournament and receive the trophies assigned for that purpose, and may also obtain the titles of South American Champion, South American Vice Champion, Third Place and shall be entitled to receive and engrave their names on the respective Permanent Trophies.
